How to Find Discord Alts: 8 Signs a New Member Is a Banned User Coming Back
You banned them on Tuesday. On Thursday a brand-new account joins and already knows where everything is. Here is how to tell, and how to be sure.

Discord will not tell you when two accounts belong to the same person, so knowing how to find Discord alts comes down to reading signs: a new account that joins right after a ban, through the same invite, already knows your server, writes like the banned user and targets the same people. With three or more signs, confirm the link with an alt checker before you act.

Why Discord will not tell you who is an alt
Moderators often assume there is a hidden panel somewhere. There is not.
- No IP addresses. Discord never shows them to owners, admins or moderators.
- No device or email information. You see a profile, the same as everyone else.
- Alts are allowed. Discord has no reason to flag a second account, because having one breaks no rule.
Discord does block the banned account's IP address when you ban. It just never tells you when that block fails. So finding an alt comes down to two things: reading behavior, and checking the link with a tool built for it.
8 signs a new member is a banned user coming back
1. The account is brand new, or old and empty
Most evaders create a fresh account. Check the creation date on the profile, or under Server Settings, Members, in the "Joined Discord" column.
Careful ones use an aged account instead. The tell is an old creation date with nothing behind it: no mutual servers, no connections, a default avatar.
2. They joined right after a ban
Compare your join log with your ban log. Most returns happen within minutes to a few days, while the person is still angry. A join two hours after a ban deserves a second look.
3. They came in through the same door
The Members page shows a Join Method for each member: which invite they used. A new account arriving through the invite the banned user had, or through a link posted in a place only they knew about, is a strong hint.
4. The profile echoes the old one
People are creatures of habit. Look for the same naming pattern with one character changed, the same avatar style, the same bio line, the same pronouns and status.
5. They know too much
A real newcomer asks where things are. A returning user does not need to. Watch for someone who, on day one:
- finds the right channel for everything,
- uses your in-jokes and custom emoji correctly,
- knows moderators by name, or by old nickname.
6. They write the same way
Writing is hard to disguise for long. Compare with the banned user's old messages:
- punctuation habits, such as ellipses, double spaces or no capital letters,
- favorite emoji and reactions,
- recurring typos and slang,
- the same second language showing through.
7. They are online at the same hours
Same time zone, same after-school or late-night window, same days off. One match means little. A full week of matching activity means more.
8. They go after the same people
The strongest behavioral sign. The new account picks up the old argument, replies to the same member, or needles the moderator who issued the ban.
How many signs are enough

Signs tell you where to look. They are not proof, and a ban based only on "they type like him" is the kind that ends up in a public callout post.
How to check if a Discord account is an alt
This is the step where you stop guessing.

What not to do
- Do not accuse them in public. If you are wrong, you humiliated a newcomer. If you are right, you warned them.
- Do not interrogate. "Have we met before?" gets you a lie and a more careful evader.
- Do not ban on one sign. Siblings and roommates share connections, and plenty of people type alike.
- Do not share the report. It exists to support a moderation decision inside your team. Posting it, or using it to expose someone, breaks Discord's rules.
What to do once it is confirmed
Ban the returning account and every Certain match, write the original ban into the reason, and report the evasion to Discord. Then make the next attempt harder with a verification gate.

How do I find a Discord user ID?
In Discord, open User Settings, then Advanced, and turn on Developer Mode. Then right-click a user, or long-press on mobile, and choose Copy User ID. The ID is a 17 to 20 digit number that never changes, even when the username does.
